Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks) discovers Presley, granted after he's been a chart-topping local hit in the South, and sees a grand opportunity. We chart the rise of Elvis Presley (Austin Butler) from a young crooner in the 1950s to the best-selling solo artist in recording history. It is ridiculous, it is campy, it is emotional and sincere, it is, at points, even brilliant, and in a way, this shambolic style perfectly symbolizes Elvis himself, a performer that seems to be anything that the viewer projects onto him, a trailblazer who suffered for his art before becoming an irreplaceable industry and edifice of pop-culture obsession unto himself. I feel completely certain that people will call Elvis brilliant, and people will deem Elvis to be ridiculous and campy, and I would say it defiantly manages to be all of these identities at once. KATE NETFLIX IMDB PARENTS GUIDE MOVIEAs with all Luhrmann films, the first 20 minutes is a rush of tones, characters, and near constant frenetic movement it's so much to process before the movie eventually settles down, at least marginally, or the viewer becomes better acclimated to the madcap storytelling style of this mad Aussie. How can we be true to ourselves and also feel like we're fitting in and part of a peer group? What would you do in Alexa's shoes? Would you feel the same urgency to keep your illness secret?įamilies can talk about how friends relate to each other.Elvis the movie is exactly what I would have hoped for from a Baz Luhrmann film, which is an experience that no one else can provide, a messy, chaotic, crazy, sometimes tin-eared yet audacious and immersive kaleidoscope of sight and sound that feels like a theme park ride. Show moreįamilies can talk about Alexa's fear that her peers will react differently to her when they find out she has cancer. KATE NETFLIX IMDB PARENTS GUIDE SERIESAlexa & Katie, like Montana, is a sanitized but better-than-it-has-to-be series for tweens - if you have some at your house, see what they think. The show's visuals, too, have a bright and artificial look that may remind some viewers of Disney Channel sitcoms - fittingly, since creator Heather Wordham worked on Hannah Montana. Alexa has a mean-girls rivalry with classmate Gwenny Thompson ( Kerri Medders) Alexa's brother Lucas ( Emery Kelly) is a textbook big-brother hunk who Katie predictably pines over the girls' parents are more types than people and they don't speak, they quip. When other characters show up on the screen, things are a little less fresh. So when Alexa and Katie show their friendship in tangible ways, like when Katie shaves her head in solidarity with Alexa's chemo hair loss, or when Alexa tags a sign "Alexa + K8tie 4ever," viewers with their own real-life sisterly friendships will feel a tingle of recognition - and the thrill of seeing part of themselves represented. KATE NETFLIX IMDB PARENTS GUIDE TVSupportive (and believable!) female friendships are rare on TV more often than not, female characters are in competition or just co-existing on the same screen. With a sweet teen-soap tone that lightens up the heaviness of a main character in cancer treatment, this dramedy goes down easier than you'd expect. if I were to pick my favorite character it would definitely be Katie Besides that I love the show very much I’ve seen it over 20 times maybe. I do see a lot of comments of people saying that it wasn’t a proper representation of childhood cancer so with that ideology I will agree with them since the show tends to take the attention off the cancer and just kind of like poke fun at it sometimes or make it this unrealistic experience. I never experienced cancer or know anyone who’s had cancer so for me to even have some kind of comment about it I couldn’t really give you a realistic response. As someone who is a Disney Channel fan since I was 10 years old I appreciate it. As for the acting I think it’s very Disney Channel level. Those three characters I felt were just vein spots that the producers felt like they had to fill-in. I feel like Lucas‘s character should’ve stayed out of the show after season two and Dylan had no business being in season three. As for the extras I feel like Gwennys character should’ve been written off after season two. I felt like Alexis character was confident and strong but then sometime she needed to be brought back down to earth and that’s where Katie comes in. The show overall is super cute and it kind of makes me feel like I’m reliving my high school experience.
